Pushups for Heart Health
Those who can do 40 or more pushups at one time have a 96% reduced risk of heart attack, heart disease, and stroke!
Dr. Kales, a health professor at Harvard, stated “the more pushups you can do, the less likely you were to have a heart disease event.” Cardiovascular disease and stroke are the leading causes of premature death making physical fitness assessments a strong predictor of health.
Now, this is obviously not an exact definite statement for every single human being, however when you consider what makes this task difficult it makes sense.
If you are overweight, lack flexibility, have poor cardiovascular endurance, older age, and/or lack muscle strength, attempting 40 pushups will be very difficult for you. All of these factors indicate a higher mortality risk. The better you are in any of these areas the change can be monitored by testing consistent pushups.
